WELCOME TO
The Rose Valley
Bulgaria has more than a 350-year-old tradition of producing Rose oil and Rose water.
Although the oil bearing Rosa Damascena Mill has been brought to Bulgaria from the Middle East, this beautiful flower has found its perfect home here.
Unique climate, gentle kisses of the sun, nourishing soil, cooling mountains and crystal clear raindrops help this delicate flower flourish in magnificence.
The Bulgarian Rosa Damascena Mill is considered the best, the richest, the most elegant exquisite scent of the highest number of active compounds – more than 360. All around the world is known as “The Queen of the Essential Oil”.
Roses are picked at dawn, when flowers have just been touched by the early morning dew, delicate yet full of power by the skillful and patient hands of Bulgarian women.
Centuries-Old Bulgarian Water-Steam Distillation: From Rose Petals to Rose Oil and Water
The process following their pick-up is water-steam distillation refined by Bulgarians in the Rose Valley for centuries. Although the practice hasn’t changed since ancient times, true aromatherapy distillers can be counted on the fingers of one hand. The production of 1 kg of Rose Oil (Rosa Damascena) requires some 3,500 kg fresh rose petals. Our standard for producing Rose Water is 1:1 – i. e. 1 liter water to 1 kg of freshly picked rose petals.
Organic Land Care and Sustainable Agriculture in Rose Oil Production
Apart from the process, there is a unique approach to land care and agriculture. The soil where we grow the plants is free from chemicals, our seeds come from organically cultivated plants, not treated with fungicides, pesticides, or growth hormones.
We use muka, the so called “waste” from the distillation process with fertilizers, creating a natural cycle and bringing back to the earth the gift we have received.
